The UCL-Japan Youth Challenge prides itself on the uniqueness of the programme locations.
We hold our summer school programme in three locations in England: West Sussex, Cambridge and London.

UK-based participants
If you go to school or college located in the UK, you will be a ‘UK-based participant’.
All UK-based participants participate in the UCL-Japan Youth Challenge individually.
All participants must attend Day 1 at Rikkyo School in England and Days 4–8 at UCL.
Accommodation is optional throughout the programme.
We offer our accommodation options at Rikkyo School in England (1 night) and the University of Cambridge (2 nights) (3 nights in total), UCL (University of London) only (5 nights), and all locations (8 nights in total).
Participants from Japanese high schools
Participants from Japanese high schools participate in the UCL-Japan Youth Challenge with their school teacher/leader, forming school groups.
Each school group has approximately three participants plus one teacher/leader.
All participants and teachers/leaders from Japanese high schools arrive prior to the first day (Day 1) and stay at our accommodation throughout the programme.
1. Rikkyo School in England
Guildford Road, Rudgwick, Horsham, West Sussex RH12 3BE
Founded in 1972, Rikkyo School in England is a Japanese boarding school in Horsham, West Sussex.
The school was the first Japanese high school opened outside Japan, as an overseas branch of a Japanese private school.
It has pupils aged from 10 to 18 years old; primary schools (5th and 6th grades), junior high school and senior high school.
The school follows the Japanese national curriculum and all pupils live in boarding houses.
It is located 44 miles south-south-west of London.

2. University of Cambridge
University of Cambridge, The Old Schools, Trinity Lane, Cambridge CB2 1TN
The University of Cambridge is the second oldest university in the UK, established in 1209.
It is world-renowned as a leading UK university with a collegiate system.
The UCL-Japan Youth Challenge signed a memorandum of understanding with Hughes Hall, one of the 31 Colleges of the University of Cambridge, in 2023.
Participants attend special lectures delivered by Cambridge academics on Day 3 each year.

3. UCL
University College London, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT
Founded in 1826, it is the first university in the capital.
It is one of the largest research universities in the UK, with its main campus located in Bloomsbury, central London. It also has UCL East, a new campus opened in 2022 by the river on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London, along with other sites across London and in Surrey.
It is one of the federation members of the University of London.
