Hugh Starkey

Hugh Starkey is Professor of Citizenship and Human Rights Education at UCL Institute of Education, London. His research focuses on education for democratic citizenship, human rights and social justice in a globalising world. He is founding co-director of the International Centre for Education for Democratic Citizenship and editor of the London Review of Education. He has led European-funded projects on citizenship and human rights
education and has acted as a consultant for several governments and the Council of Europe, UNESCO, European Commission and the British Council. Since 2016 he has led the Active Citizenship strand of the UCL Global Citizenship Programme.
